Night of Museums at the Central Archives of Historical Records
There's something remarkable about looking at history through the lens of travel – routes that cut across maps and change the way people move, work, and live. Railways have always been more than just a means of transport – they connected places and people, shortening distances and speeding up daily life.
In the Night of Museums, the Central Archives of Historical Records I will present to you a story about the development of railways in Polish lands under Russian and Austrian partitions. It was the railway that changed the landscape, sped up daily life, and brought people and cities closer together.
This year's exhibition „The Railway Connects and Brings Closer”fits into a special moment – Year of the Polish Railways, established by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. The year 2026 also marks 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Polish State Railways enterprise – events that permanently shaped transportation in independent Poland.
The exhibition will feature maps and diagrams of old railway lines, documentation of infrastructure – stations, buildings, and equipment – as well as photographs that capture the world of railways from years ago.
On the occasion Night of the Museums in Warsaw you are also invited to Lecture by prof. dr hab. Michał Kopczyński „The Railway Connects and Brings Closer”, which starts at 8:00 PM.
