Exhibition „100 Years of Surveillance” at Warsaw Central Station
Until May 14th, a unique exhibition „100 Years of Supervision” can be viewed at the Warszawa Centralna train station. It was prepared by the Office of Rail Transport on the occasion of the centenary of supervision over railways in Poland. The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Railway Museum.
The exhibition „100 Years of Supervision” presents the biographies of the first inspectors from the interwar period, inspection reports, inspection plans, and other documents that are a priceless testament to past times. Only a few materials from the archive of the Ministry of Transport survived World War II. Most were burned by the Germans during the occupation. Some documents from the Military Office of the Ministry of Communications survived, constituting a historical treasure for railway workers and historians today. The exhibition can be viewed until May 14th in front of the ticket offices in the main hall of Warsaw Central Station. Later this year, it will also be available at the Museum Station.
„The beginnings of railway supervision in Poland date back to 1925, when the Main Railway Inspectorate was established, and its legacy was continued by subsequent institutions – until the creation of the Office of Railway Transport. These institutions are united by one word: safety.
”A hundred years ago, it was already understood that the railway system needed to be monitored, statistics compiled, and safety levels assessed. I am proud that we have gathered information from a century ago that was previously unpublished. We can show the results to a wider audience thanks to the support of the Railway Museum and PKP S.A., for which I am grateful," says Dr. Eng. Ignacy Góra, President of the Office of Rail Transport.
The exhibition is also available virtually on the website utk.gov.pl/100years, making its content accessible to everyone at any time.
