Heroes from Szymankowo
On the 86th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, a ceremony will be held to name the railway station in Szymankowo near Tczew „Heroes of Szymankowo 1939”.
This way, railway workers and customs officers who paid the highest price on September 1, 1939 – giving their lives defending railway infrastructure from being taken over by the invader – will be honored.
During the ceremony, a commemorative plaque will be unveiled, on which travelers will be able to read:
„In tribute to those who stood in defense of Poland on the first day of the war”.
The event will be attended by, among others, the CEO (Alan Beroud) and Vice-CEO (Dariusz Grajda) of the PKP S.A. Management Board, the CEO of the PKP Group Foundation (Radosław Konieczny), as well as representatives of PKP Group companies, local government bodies, and members of railway trade unions.
